Energising Turmeric Milkshake (Dairy-Free!)


This Ayurvedic-friendly recipe is similar to a smoothie, without the incompatible food combining no-no’s (such as milk and fruit / yogurt and fruit to name a few.) which tend to cause Kapha heaviness, slow digestion and toxins in the system.

Not only deliciously refreshing, it also includes many what we call “Ojas incresing foods” in Ayurveda - which is our vitality and immunity increasing whole foods, and is filled with nourishing and grounding oils and fats, plant protein and of course digestive spices for optimal digestion - (A super important part of any good Ayurveda recipe)

One of my favourite things about this deeply nourishing turmeric shake - With all of those highly nourishing ingredients, it can be enjoyed in multiple ways such as a rejuvenating snack, a dessert, a post-workout rejuvenator or just about anytime you need a sweet pick-me-up!

This particular smoothie recipe is best enjoyed no more than 3-4 times each week to avoid increasing Kapha, heaviness, and toxins in the system.

Energising Turmeric Milkshake Recipe

Serves: 2


2 cups water

1/2 cup of pure coconut water or coconut milk

1/2 of a large avocado or 1 small avocado

3 to 4 large medjool dates (if you prefer or your blender requires it - soak the dates overnight in some water to soften - (remember to remove pits) )

1/2 turmeric powder

1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

1/4 tsp dry ginger

1/2 turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional extras:

1 teaspoon Ashwagandha powder

1 teaspoon Shatavari powder


1. Place all of the ingredients in a good blender

2. Blend on high for 2 to 3 minutes.

3. Taste to see if the consistency is smooth and creamy .. If any chunks remain, blend a bit more.

4. Once the consistency is as desired, pour the shake into a ball jar and seal tightly. Enjoy immediately or place this in the refrigerator of 1 to 2 hours to create a cooler temperature.
